I4MS Project & DIH

HPC4Poland Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) has been launched in 2016 as a result of the project named Feasibility for cloud based simulation services hub to accelerate the servitization processes in smart factories, completed under the Innovation for Manufacturing SMEs (I4MS) project. The Project enabled us to identify and define the actual blank spots and market demand for HPCC within the Polish manufacturing sector. Within the Project we also drafted a number of collaborative HPC services which may considerably raise the competitiveness of Polish manufacturing companies.

The Project was completed by the following consortium:

FBOX  |

  • non-profit company, an active player of the Polish and European (partner in Fi-Ware accelerators: Impact and Incense) acceleration ecosystem
  • young and dynamic non-profitable initiative to support, promote and launch technological & innovative businesses in Europe
  • the first and the largest global public funding platform for startups and accelerators
  • offers tools to manage Open Calls and contests that allow startups to qualify for public funding
  • expertise in managing EU Funds and providing procedures and tools widely tested in previous services
  • wide experience in European RTD or innovation projects, either in management and coordination as well as in transversal activities such as evaluation, exploitation, training or dissemination tasks, supported by the large presence of the company in Europe.

IWP  | Institute of Industrial Design is a strategic consultant for companies in the scope of introducing new design products to the market. It conducts activities towards the improvement (through design) the innovation and competition of Polish companies. It has an extensive experience in coordinating the development processes of new products with the participation of industrial designers, on commission of the clients. It is also the only institution in Poland with a scientific facility status (category ‘A’) that deals in a systemic industrial design implementation, as well as being a Research and Development Centre.

PARP  |  PARP is a government agency that has been providing support to entrepreneurs in the implementation of competitive and innovative projects for over 10 years. The primary objective of our activity is to develop the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland. To support entrepreneurs, PARP uses the funds from the State budget and European Funds. In the 2007-2013financial perspective, the Agency is responsible for the implementation of measures under three Operational Programmes: Innovative Economy, Human Capital and Development of Eastern Poland. One of the key tasks of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development is to support export, including strengthening of the competitive position of Polish enterprises on foreign markets and making it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to get in touch with foreign companies in their business. To that end, PARP offers Polish SMEs an opportunity to participate in economic missions organised around the world, cooperative exchanges and fair events. Furthermore, Enterprise Europe Network operating under PARP provides an opportunity for the entrepreneurs seeking foreign partners to publish their company profile in the Cooperation Offers’ Database accessible by approximately 600 network units in Europe and around the world. Moreover, Enterprise Europe Network offers comprehensive services covering information, training and counselling measures mainly in the field of European Union law and policies, business activity in Poland and abroad, access to sources of financing, internationalisation of enterprises, transfer of technologies and participation in EU framework programmes.

PSNC  |  Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PSNC, www.psnc.pl) is a leading research and computing center in Poland. PSNC, affiliated at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Science, was established in 1993 by the State Committee for Scientific Research.

PSNC is responsible for the management of the countrywide Polish National Research and Educational Network (NREN) – Polish Optical Internet – PIONIER. The PIONIER infrastructure is based on dedicated fibers and DWDM equipment owned by PSNC. The network consists of about 6500 km of fiber cable lines interconnecting 21 MANs in Poland, all Polish universities (over 100) and the Polish Academy of Sciences institutes, including over 700 research and development institutions and 5 HPC centers. The PIONIER infrastructure is connected to the GÉANT network with 2x10Gbps connections. The important element of PIONIER network are existing direct cross-border fibres (CBFs) to other European operators. Moreover, PSNC connects research and development institutes in Poznan city within POZMAN metropolitan area network. This network consists of 220 km of optical fibers equipped with MPLS technology.

As a leading supercomputing center, PSNC provides access to production quality environment for scientific computation. HPC resources located at PSNC include specialized calculating systems with different architectures: multiprocessor SMPs, tightly coupled clusters GPGPU machines, linked by fast local networks: InfiniBand, Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet.

In addition to HPC services, PSNC provides access to storage resources. The archiving service offers reliable data storage facility with easy and efficient access and replication. Typical applications of the storage clouds are:  long-term storage of content for digital libraries, backup copies of HPC systems, projects of individual users, safe data storage with end-to-end encryption and integrity control.
